The decision to become a mother is a serious one, and I've always treated it as such. Nature dictates a special bond between a mother and her natural child. Becoming a mother is a rich experience. I only hope that every woman who is thinking of, or is in a position of, becoming a mother can birth and care for her child in peace; her environment should be free of harassment, manipulation, and bullying.
My main piece of unsolicited advice is for unwed mothers. Since I do believe in prenuptial agreements, I must also suggest that unwed mothers implement a parenting plan through a local clerk of court, especially in Florida. Though your child's father may be whispering sweet nothings in your ear, now, protect yourself from a potentially ugly child custody battle by initiating a parenting plan. Meanwhile, if your relationship is still in tact, fine. Perhaps, don't worry about enforcing it. But just in case he loses his ever-loving mind, as they often do, a plan will be in place already.
Save yourself some time, grief, anxiety, and overall resources. Just go ahead and file the papers with the Clerk of Court. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about.
