In Case You're Wondering: Glad I Served!

Hello Everyone and thanks again for stopping by to see me!  I just wanted to share a quick point with you.  If you're wondering why you served in our United States Military or if you should serve, let me be the first to say, "DO IT!"  I won't kid you, it will be tough and you will endure situations that you never thought you could handle.  But the reward is worth it!

Not only will you receive dynamic training that sets you a cut above your civilian peers, but you'll feel a sense of pride, once you're done.  Personally, my time in service has made me eligible for benefits that have made an overwhelming difference in my life.  As a result, I received the best prenatal healthcare, which facilitated the full-term birth of my beloved son.

It's just he and I now, but organizations like the American Legion, have helped tremendously with our transition.  I urge you to become a member. Get involved! Besides, you never know when or if you may need assistance.

A Veteran's PTSD Thanks!

Today, I was informed that our wonderful military, responsible for fostering a less than favorable working environment for me for nearly FOUR (4) excruciating years, has 100% denied any role in the PTSD diagnosis of a certain service member during military tenure.

From this blatant disregard, it appears that repeated sexual harassment and discrimination of many types are excusable, acceptable, and those who resist will continue to be black-balled... That it's okay-especially if another trauma occurred prior to enlistment and no treatment or diagnosis was ever established-to retaliate against individuality. "What ever happened to "accountability," I say!

Anywho, Thanks a bunch U.S. Military!!!  At least, now I know that the maltreatment I endured was never my fault, and that it is indeed okay for me to be smart AND pretty ;-)

To my beloved active-duty and veteran victims: HANG IN THERE!  You'll overcome the oppression, at some point. Stay strong & God Bless.

Brand vs. Generic Drugs

Many of us use generic drugs, in effort to save money.  The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) determines which generic drugs can be dispensed in place of brand name drugs.  But what happens when the brand is unavailable? What if no generic drug is available to replace the brand name drug that was prescribed?

Usually, pharmacists would call the prescribing physician and suggest alternatives; as a military pharmacy technician, I've had to do this on many occasions, in the past.  Well, in some states, pharmacists are legally permitted to change prescriptions to a completely different drug, but within the same drug category.  

As long as there is a justifiable, documented explanation for the change (including review of the patient's medical history), I don't see a problem with it.

Think about how this information makes you feel.  Meanwhile, always take advantage of the opportunity to speak with a pharmacist about your prescriptions.

Post Pharmacy Errors

The practice of making babies may be fun and all, but the seriousness of it is not a laughing matter. My pharmacy experience runs deep, and I am grateful to report that I have never made a medication error that resulted in the harm or death of a patient. Unfortunately, all of my colleagues can not say the same.

One of my motivations for writing an article on this topic is my belief that everyone should be aware of the risks involved with receiving hospital care. My main point is that all medication errors do NOT occur in the pharmacy. Hopefully, reading my published article, Post Pharmacy Errors, will help my readers understand the players and the processes involved in getting medication to patients.

Meanwhile, from a public health perspective, I feel that the public at large should recognize the baby-making process with more reverence.
